Gilda Rogers and Roger Mumford, key leaders of the Fortune movement, gave a compelling and exciting presentation about the T.Thomas Fortune Project at Morristown Beard School. Education was a critical part of Mr.Fortune’s success and that same knowledge must be imparted on the young people of today and generations to follow. Spreading the word about Mr. Fortune’s work is important and beneficial, especially in today’s world, a time where ignorance cannot be greater than wisdom.
Thank you to the Morristown Beard School for seeing the value and significance of T.Thomas Fortune, his work, and his legacy.

Gilda Rogers is a trailblazing African American women who seeks to make the world we live in a better place each and everyday. Rogers is a Journalist, Author & Playwright, Producer, Director Historian and Educator.
Rogers is currently leading a herculean effort to restore the National Historic Landmark, the T.Thomas Fortune House, located in Red Bank, New Jersey. It was once the home of a notable African American journalist and newspaper editor, T.Thomas Fortune, who was one of the most vocal and courageous social justice crusaders of the 19th and 20th centuries. Rogers has worked tirelessly alongside the T.Thomas Fortune Committee and Roger Mumford of Mumford Homes, who is the developer of the project. Together, they have successfully saved the T.Thomas Fortune House and restoration of Mr.Fortune’s home is currently underway. The honor of being named Humanitarian of the Year is a well deserved commendation for a hard working individual who goes above and beyond to produce extraordinary works with never ending perseverance.
The award presentation will be held on Monday June 12 beginning at 4 PM at the Ag Bldg. on Kozlowski Rd., Freehold.
